Housed in the 1828 building raised under Ioannis Kapodistrias, the museum follows one small tree as it reshapes an island — its dry soil, its working year, and eventually its name.
The building
A house that has already held several Greeces.
Built in 1828, it served as the first orphanage of the modern Greek state, then housed institutions of a country still inventing itself — the first mutual-instruction school, the first national library, the national printing house and the first archaeological museum.
